DC switch power consumption

I just got my DC 8-port switch (after lengthy wait) and am poking around. Definitely like what I see so far, especially the build quality (looks rugged) and iperf server feature, but notice the fan and wonder what the power draw is for the unit itself, running the fan like that? My old Mikrotiks have low power consumption, fan makes me wonder. Hate to add batteries just to run router.

The fan consumes less than 1 watt at full RPM.

You need the fan especially in the Smart DC versions so please do not unhook it.

Looks like at idle without any PoE antennas hooked up the panel says it's using 8.4Watts, isn't that high? I think the Rocket M5 uses 5 or so, and the ePMP use around 7? I don't think the MT 750UP's use that much (but they don't have a fan either)?

You have an early release of DC code where we display a little on the high side the power used. But you also need to remember that without a POE load, the power supply is inefficient compared to with a load.

Okay, thanks for the heads up. I hooked up port 3 to a Rocket M5 and port 4 to an ePMP and the total power draw on the WS-8-250-DC panel looks like 15Watts? The Rocket was on max tx power, the epmp was medium tx power. I guess that'd mean the WS-8-250-DC units is drawing around 3W? Does that sounds sane?

close, i would expect the switch draws closer to 4 watts...

with lots of traffic and the fan running in a hotter environment, where do you suppose an "upper average" might be?

if all 8 ports running max out, and fan running, maybe the switch will use 8-9 watts max (NOT INCLUDING ANY POE BUDGET).

Can I then assume these numbers approximately applies to the WS-12-DC and the WS-12-250-DC too, maybe just adding 4-5 watts to be sure?

Asking cause I need to calculate how much power the switch itself will use so I can calculate overall powerconsumption of my equipment on a site. :)

12-port will use about 2 watts more than 8 port.
