24VH and Ubiquity 24V ?

Just checking Chris did you verify this again? I actually tried this on an Nanostation M2 using the port 2 on the 6 mini and basically it fried the radio. The link back to the tower still worked but I had no link from the radio to the laptop anymore. Now we did do a cable check and that showed good but I will admit I may of screwed up somewhere plus the nano was on the older side. I am going to give it a shot again using a Nanobeam AC coming up on an install but I just want to verify to avoid issues. Thanks.

Yes I went back and tested this and it did NOT work

It also fried my radio and appears it may have taken out the port 2 of the switch.

Check to see if your port 2 on the switch is fried.

Editing my posts above to indicate this is not a good idea.

Let me know, if your MINI is damaged I will repair it. - REALLY SORRY

I know I had tested this before and it worked but apparently I am smoking crack and an idiot I guess

DO NOT POWER NON 24VH OR 48VH DEVICES SUCH AS LEGACY 10/100 airMAX GEAR LISTED BELOW WITH PORT 2 OF THE MINI IT WILL DAMAGE THE DEVICE AND THE PORT!

I had tested a NanoBeam stem which is a 1G port device which forces the manufacture (Ubiquiti) to properly use the center tap of the Ethernet transformer to get the POE power off.

I re-tested a 1G NanoBeam on 24VH and it worked fine.

So in closing probably MOST 1G device that are 802.3af compliant will work fine on 48VH and "most" 1G normal 24V devices will work fine with 24VH but beware this is not a guarantee.

HOWEVER WHEN POWERING A NANOBEAM ON PORT 2 IT DID NOT DAMAGE THE UNIT OR THE PORT OF THE SWITCH BUT THE NANOBEAM WOULD ONLY GET A 10/100 LINK

This must have been what I had tested quickly before not thinking it was a gig device since I saw a 10/100 link - I am really sorry for the bad advice.

I will do my own research with the 1G devices once I get some more 6's in as we are now out at the moment. Just put in an order to streakwave today. Might not be a bad idea to make a list on what can be powered on port 2 and sticky it and add it to any kind of datasheet for future reference. Thanks.

A LOT of stuff is happening this week which I just posted about the DC switches opening up for orders and there are more BIG announcements to come VERY soon so hit me up end this week or early next week on my cell and I will talk about fixing the wrong I did ya!!!!

Read the post above, it only applies to Port #2 on the WS-6-MINI

Mini port maps
Port 1 can be a normal port with no POE options if using the barrel adapter to power the switch.
Port 2 is a special port that only supplies 24VH or 48VH for airFIBER or AF5X type radios or MIMOSA or Ignite radios
Port 3 will work with all normal/standard 24V or 48V devices such as Rockets, NanoStations, whatever
Port 4 will work with all normal/standard 24V or 48V devices such as Rockets, NanoStations, whatever
Port 5 will work with all normal/standard 24V or 48V devices such as Rockets, NanoStations, whatever
Port 6 will work with all normal/standard 24V or 48V devices such as Rockets, NanoStations, whatever

What we are saying is Port 2 and only Port 2 can not be used to power regular 10/100 24V airMAX radios

This is not software but a hardware issue so no, a software fix will never allow "Port 2" to power standard 24V airMAX radios but Ports 3-6 are just fine for that job!!!

Port 2 is for either no POE or airFIBER type Radios or devices that can accept power on all 4 pair like most 48V 802.3af devices such as Phones and Cameras

We did get our other spare up though and plan on doing a writeup on it soon. Works real nice. Probably the only feature request I currently have is that it would be nice if I could set an alias IP to get to management since we vlan everything. I ran into an oh crap moment when I was 80 feet up in the air and the connection that goes down to the bottom only had access to our customers internet connection as I setup everything before I went out. I ended up having to reset the switch in the air so that the guy at the bottom could get into it so we could test the cables before turning on the connection. Not really a big deal as long as everything works but if I ran into a situation where the AP locked up and I wanted to get into the switch to try and reboot it through the management side it would be nice.
