Poe powered version Tower Switch

Any plans for a Poe version that basically would just passively pass through whatever voltage was used to feed power to the switch via one of the ethernet ports?

Basically a more flexible version of RouterBOARD 260GSp. Higher power range, more amps, version with more ports etc. Maybe even a version that is waterproof with the screw cover sealed jacks for each port to avoid having to mount outdoor enclosures everywhere.

Well not for the 12 or 24 port, they would require far to much current then could be supplied on a single Ethernet cable.

The 12 port switch draws as much 15 watts just to run and the 24 port over 22 watts.

Now if we ever made a small 4-5 port we could possibly do this if we were not also going to power airFIBER units.

This is very similar concept of our Tower Switch except ours is 12/24port and is connected to the lower 1U chassis containing the power supply by a fiber/copper composite cable.

Yes like the Tycon switches with the management features of the WISP Switch or Edge Switch Etc. We use vlans pretty heavily so being able to manage them at every switch is pretty important.

I can see how lots of ports would present power issues but there are pleny of places where 5 or 8 would do wonders particualarly in commercial wifi installs where you find you need to add additional APs because of dead spots or increased user load. Crawling around in hard cap, popping tiles, or pulling through old conduit never make for a fun day on the job.

And I am sure Sirhc could put his usual unique spin on it to make it stand out more.
