Port Isolation

Sun Jan 25, 2015 12:51 am

I just upgraded one of my switches to 1.1.0.rc13 and see the "Iso" check box on the ports page.
sooo.. I assume any ports that are checked are isolated? Can I also assume that it's tagged and untagged traffic? or is it just the untagged packets on the port?

I really need it on the tagged frames mostly. Can the switch core support something like mikrotiks split horizon bridging? Where you could specify that a port with the same horizon value can't talk to another port with the same horizon value? This way you could control on a port and per vlan what can talk where?

Thanks for the the hard work!

Once I get an answer on what it does to tagged and untagged that will help and will probably be enough to get me going. But I think in the future you'd have to expand on the configuration and possible use a number system like the tik does with SHB or a whole nother page that lists the ports and the vlans so you can select check boxes to define what is isolated.

I wish the switch was here with me so I could do some testing. :)

I think we may add to the port isolation configuration options?

Maybe make it more like this TP Link implementation instead of the way the ToughSwitch did it.

Toughswitch has port isolation?

I think that's the same link I sent when I first asked about it. that would do it!

RE the TP-Link config page stuff.
That would work, as long as it also includes the vlans and not the physical ports.

Toughswitch doesn't have port isolation. I'm not familiar with TP-Link options - we use the MT split horizon port isolation and it works great.

Maybe Chris meant EdgeSwitch?

I've never used an edgeswitch, yet so I don't know they had it either. I take it they do? But they still have a lesser operating range and still wont power an airfiber right? :)

Correct. The ES also doesn't have passive 48V PoE, only 24V. The 48V is only auto af/at. Fine for enterprise stuff but not something I would want for carrier kit.
