Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
I will be honest I am surprised that Matt's cable is even working?
The cross pair shorts are not good - EVER!
The abnormal termination I can deal with but are not correct and sometimes Rockets can cause this and sometimes are a bad crimp.
But those cross pair shorts are always a bad thing!

Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
In his one screen grab he shows pair 3 cross shorted to pair 4?
I do not even know how this is working for POE as pair 3 and 4 are positive and negative polarity - POOF???

Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
Oh I bet I know what is causing this crap
He use those damn Ethernet surge protectors!
I use no Ethernet surge protectors at all in any of my network.
Nice to remind us Matt about your full setup!
I had to refer to my notes on our past conversations and there it was, you use Ether Surge Protectors!
You also have several really messed up ones you pulled from service.

Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
So what does "abnormal termination" mean?
I'm finding it hard to believe I have a cross-pair short between pairs 3 and 4. Wouldn't PoE be shorted if that were the case?

Nope... surge arresters are all removed from this piece of the network. No arresters up top, no arresters down below. Cable plugs directly from the radio into your switch.

Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
On the "Skyline" radio.. how do I have a cross-pair short from 3 to 4... but not a short from 4 to 3? I'm calling software bug. Sorry, Chris.

Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
Chris, please provide us with a wiremap of the pair designations? Which pairs designate 1, 2, 3, and 4?
At one point I thought I could, via process of elimination figure it out by shorting wires a pair at a time, but then I was getting conflicting results that caused more confusion than clarity.

Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
Les I would guess it's just counting across the pins? But I could be wrong. Would be interesting to hear from Chris on this. Something is wrong... either there's a short or there isn't. But if there's a short PoE isn't going to work.... soo.... which is it?

Re: Cable Tester - Abnormal Termination?
NO this is not a bug! I am telling you Matt your cables are funky!
The switches are not made different from 1 unit to the next, they are identical
The software is the software once again there is no change in any of the versions from when we implemented the cable diagnostics as far as this diagnostic test.
I can sit here and run the cable diagnostics on my towers all day long and I get the same results so why would it report differently on yours?
Look I have NOT been one to dismiss anyone's claims of a software bug so far and have actively investigated and fixed how many bugs so far, BUT this is NOT a bug I am telling you.
If using the this cable standard: T-568B:
Orange is pair 1
Green is pair 2
Blue is pair 3
Brown is pair 4
Look Matt this is easy for you to test, use a PRE made 20 foot jumper/cable, go to the switch plug it in a port, then into the radio and run the test on that PRE made cable!!!!
Then make up a 100' cable and do the same test, we have tested tons of cables plus I have 15 towers with an average of 15 radios on them and I have just tested about 30 again randomly.....something is wrong with your cabling.
