CPU USE % WHATS NORMAL

I had a few network issues last night and it seems to be something going on with RSTP when I finally got the network back up I looked into the logs to see where the issue was. I saw that STP was blocking my far end of my network for some reason, this still remains to be discovered but during my views on the root switch that is connected back to the head end where the fiber connection is I noticed my cpu use bouncing up into the 100% many times is this normal? I thought these switches were capable of much more bandwidth than I am using surely. It ended up floating back down around 50% after all was said and done.

I had to disable RSTP in every other switch to resolve the issue.

The CPU has nothing to do with switching capacity.

50% is about right on a DC model.

You will see spike when switch first boots processing discovery for awhile especially on large flat networks but should settle down

You can always disable Discovery Protocols and Discovery Tab on Device/Configuration Tab

As far as 24VH I see being used on port 1 and 2, what devices are in port 1 and 2?

A misconfigured SMTP server can also affect CPU.

You would be more efficient running AF5X at 48VH so long as they are not the original batch
