Granted but it is 196 x 8 = 1568Mb

So

1.5Mb vs 4Mb which is a huge difference.

BCM53118 is a SOHO core according to Broadcom
VSC742X is an Enterprise Core according to Vitesse

The BCM53118 was never really designed to be a used outside of a small home or office environment according to Broadcom?

I agree. Lot of us had lot of problem with toughswitch and I wouldn't had one of those to our network again. Anyway, Ubnt have abandonned the product so nobody should buy this anymore.
