Power more than one port in a VLAN

We have a WS-12-250-DC and all is easy except powering more than one port in a VLAN. I have my AF3x plugged into Port 1 on the Netonix and then Port 11 on the Netonix is plugged into port 1 on my RB3011. I have these two ports in a VLAN so this is basically a midspan setup. I can power on the AF3x without issue, but port 11 is greyed out so i cannot power the Mikrotik. I am using the SFP port to uplink the RB3011 to the Netonix, so there is no power there. Why can I not power on both ports of the VLAN?

If port 11 has a link already it will not allow you to turn POE on which is the only reason it would be greyed out.

I take the RB3011 already is powered up if it is talking to the switch via and SFP port ??

So first question is the RB3011 board already powered up and if so why would you want to apply POE power to port 11 if port 11 already has an EThernet link, your going to fry something.

No, it won't fry anything on the RB3011. All MikroTik routers that accept POE IN can be dual powered by both the AC PSU plugged into the back and by the POE IN for redundancy. They will use whichever one supplies the highest voltage.

If a port already has a link you can not add or change the POE option for that port.

Meaning if you are powering a device currently you have to turn the POE off then turn it back on to change the option.

The logic here is that if the device already has a link and is operating normally you do not want the user to accidentally fact finger and apply an incorrect POE option because the next thing that happens is I get an RMA request for a port that the user claims came DOA.
