We just put up one AF2x link, and we had a lot of trouble with it, until I realized my tech plugged it into a toughswitch! Replaced toughswitch with a netonix running 24vh and its been working good.

But if I can change it to 48v, that would be even better.
For the 2x, does it support 48VH and 48V?

We currently use the WS-6-Mini in various locations that run from a solar powered config. All the radios at the locations are 24V, we would love to see the DC input voltage for the WS-6-Mini accept 24V, and when operating in that mode lock out setting any ports to 48V. This would greatly simply some of our setups, and we would be able to use the WS-6-Mini in other applications where we are currently using a competitors 10/100 Mbps product that accepts 24V input.

Cheers

We do have a device coming out soon called the WS-5-100-DC

It is small, a little bigger than the WS-6-MINI

It accepts 9-72V maybe 80V and will condition the power for 24V and 48V devices.

It has (4) 1G POE ports (Port 1 is capable of 48VH @ 1.5A, 48V, and 24V but the other ports are only capable of 24V and 48V .75A) and (1) SFP port
NOTE: Total POE budget is 100 watts

It will still fit in the Tycon box

Basically it has all the same features as the WS-12-250-DC but is SMALL.
It uses a terminal block for power not POE IN or a barrel connector like the WS-6-MINI

We are not sure on the MSRP yet but it will be more than the WS-6-MINI

We swapped some rockets to AF5X not thinking about what ports they were connected to on the WS (24v .5) they both worked for several weeks. After awhile one of the ports would start dropping to 100Mb instead of 1Gb.
This morning we had power on one port but no ethernet link. I turned the port off and set to 45v .5 amp and the radio came right back up and is operating normally.

The other link was also on 24v .5 and I shut it down and moved it to 48v .5 amp. Hoping that it stops dropping to 100Mb now.
I can only assume that since we were pushing the port's power limit that it was causing issues. will report if anything changes.

I will probably move one of these to a second switch we have at the site that has VH ports but for now this works.

We recently installed (10) AF5X links.

Several of the radios would drop to 100M links randomly.

We also went through some trial and error solving the problem..

We tried changing the POE from 24V to 48V or 48VH if available (making sure the radio is capable of 48V operation first)
AFX.jpg

We even tried a different port in the switch to make sure the switch port was not a fault

Next we replaced the cable which fixed most problems

If any of the above did not fix the problem lastly we replaced the radio which resolved the last problem puppies.

Apparently this issue has been seen by other people as I found several posts over on UBNT forums and on this forums.

So just to re-cap on this thread, the 'newer' AFX radios that support up to 56V, can actually be run on any of the 24, 24VH, 48, and 48VH? That's a crazy amount of variety. Short cable runs, 24V, and long runs, 48V or 48VH? Should the old-style AFX's be run on 24 or 24VH? I have many that I am powering off of regular ToughSwiches that will be converted to Netonix soon, and just want to be sure.

Also, is anyone powering Mikrotik RB1100AHx2 boards? I successfully powered a bunch with ToughSwitches, however it seemed 6-12 months later, it would start rebooting like the ToughSwitch port was burning out, or did something to the port on the mikrotik. I come to the conclusion that the TS POE ports don't support enough wattage, or just the bare minimum and over time, eventually fail. I had to go and put POE bricks in at all these powered by ToughSwitches, but only after 6-18 months or so. Thus also losing my ability to remotely power-cycle them.
