It's not horrific but both of my switches use 19 watts at idle according to my KillaWatt meter, the onscreen claims 9 or 10 watts. Clearly the onscreen measures power delivered out of the power supply and doesn't/can't account for the input required to overcome losses/inefficiency.
This may be trivial when you've got grid power at hand but on solar, in the great white north, its a significant burden.

What version of the firmware are you using?
We have been tweaking that value to account for power supply inefficiencies which is hard to do considering that a power supply efficiency changes with ambient temperature.

I don't have the switch or computer that I downloaded firmware on handy , but I downloaded new firmware on Saturday so ...

Re: Houston, we've got a discrepancy
We are NOT reporting AC watts consumed but rather how much 48V DC watts is being used.
We do not have an AC current sensor and you really can not even try to calculate that as efficiencies from one power supply to another will vary easily +/- several percent. THen the AC power supply efficiency will vary wildly based on load and ambient temperature. As well the input watts will vary based on input voltages and AC voltages vary from the power company especially in HOT summers (brownouts).
Our Total power usage in watts reported in the UI is NOT AC watts but rather how much all the POE devices are consuming, the SOC and PHY's as well as the fans, LED's and SFP modules.
Now our DC versions coming out are a different story, they may indicate both DC input voltage and current as well as what the switch and the POE devices are consuming.

Chris, I request that the DC units have as much monitoring as possible. As "rockhead" says, in DC solar sites, every watt is important.

Re: Houston, we've got a discrepancy
We are planning on it. I can build anything you want, it all comes down to what it costs to build and will enough people pay for it?
As it is we will not have the money to build the DC versions if we do not sell enough AC versions to recoup the money spent developing and building them.
If you like our switches and want us to keep developing WISP oriented products you need to help get the word out. We do not have money for marketing and promotions.
We do have the preliminary design done and soon will have prototypes of the DC switches but before I can build any DC switches to sell I need to first sell the 3,000 switches I have already paid for all the parts for.....I am tapped out man!
Or loan me another couple million dollars, this shit is not cheap to do.

Re: Houston, we've got a discrepancy
Whaaaaaaaat ? I gotta buy three thousand AC switches before I get a DC switch ? LOL I thought you were doing this outa the goodness of your heart sirhc
I am liking switch #1 even though it pulls 19 watts at idle compared to 22 watts idle for the ( non-winterable) cisco it replaced. The POS Toughswitch only pulled 9 watts but hey that'd be like driving a yugo .
