Street Light Pole WS-6-MINI

Mon Jan 04, 2016 12:14 pm

Netonix Support,

I am working on an upgrade plan for a large municipal WIFI network. We'd like to use the WS-6-MINI at each pole to power a UBNT nanoBeam19 backhaul radio (24V passive), UAP-Outdoor+ 2G access radio (24V Passive), and UAP-Outdoor-AC radio for 5G access (48V 802.11af).

In the past we've used a 24V passive POE OWL attached to the light to power a NS5M + RocketM2, however I don't think they manufacturer has 48VH (all pairs) offering. We're considering using the DC barrel, but it does not appear to be compatible with the outdoor enclosure.

Any suggestions for powering the WS-6-MINI using DC power /w the outdoor enclosure?
Any suggestions for street light powering WS-6-MINI switch?

We really like the switch and the slim outdoor enclosure, but we're open to any suggestions! Currently doing 10 locations as a test out of a few hundred.

OWL Powering product : http://www.fisherpierceolc.com/pdf/FP280_OWL_Series.pdf

Thanks in advance!

Dustin Wright

I wonder why you say that.

There are a couple of plastic tabs that locate the MINI high in the enclosure but I just nip them off so that I can mount it lower. A right-angle barrel connector could fit better in a tight space.

I'll take a closer look at how the switch mounts into the enclosure. Maybe I can just shift it down and use a DC barrel.

There are two little plastic tabs that engage two small slots in the base of the switch. ISTR that it crams the switch up high. As I said, I just cut those two plastic tabs so that I can mount the switch a little lower. A woodworking chisel makes quick work of it.

It becomes quite evident once you have them in your hands.

Chris and I are at odds as to how low the switch should be in the housing. :Box:

I wanted it lower. He thinks there needs to be more room under the ethernet ports. I think I should be able to push the reset without having to remove the switch from the housing.

I was thinking of suggesting he put more of those slots at the bottom to choose whatever height I want but probably every slot adds 50 cents to the mfg cost.

I am still having issues with the power supply company. They only have 48V on 2 pairs. Any suggestions how to step-up to all four pairs?

I am checking to see if they make a version with 2.5mm barrel connector.

Added for completeness, the power supply company we're using is called sun-tech.biz. Here is a link to their products :

We've deployed a few hundred in the existing system and they work great.
