Re: Win a FREE WS-6-MINI or WS-12-250-AC
So, this is finally deployed (not in it's final configuration, yet). We were having to rush to get it WORKING before the rain deluge began.
This is a brand-new tower site that won't have permanent power for another 3 or so months. It's deployed with a solar setup, so obviously, power consumption is a key consideration. Currently powering a R5AC-Lite. It will, shortly, also be powering a couple of nanobeams for distribution to a few close-by locations. I'm planning to mount the WS-6-Mini up the tower at that point but it wasn't happening yesterday.
So, for now, this link is active and I can do final aiming of the AP side as soon as the monsoon ends.
Having the switch there gives me the ability to change up VLANS easily for testing when I have the laptop plugged in. It will be critical when I get a few other links and a router here. I'll also be putting in some IP cams to monitor the site. (anyone have suggestions? :) )
For now, I'm thrilled to see a MANAGED, VLAN-capable, DC-powered switch with the feature set I need (and pulling 7-8 watts total
with the R5AC idling).
Please excuse the site mess. My outdoor-rated power cable hasn't arrived and, like I said, we were trying to beat the monsoon that was arriving (again!) so we could get the AP-end of this 18.9 mile link dialed in. I'm very lucky that it linked up at all without the AP-end being fine-tuned. I was hoping to be able to get a sniff from the AP... not a valid link (not great signal... but the first dish was hung to landmark-aiming-by-eyeball). Cleanup will happen next weekend.

Title of a Hannah Montana song... What's not to like
"He's tall, he's sweet, has a great sense of humor, and he has a great job - what's not to like?"
Three out of four ain't bad.
