This has been brought up before, however a midspan PoE device would be fantastic. A device similar to the smart DC switches, but without the switch. Selectable 24/28 2 & 4 pair power, wide DC input range, just no switch. Yes, you can accomplish similar with the current switches and Q-In-Q, but what happens when you want to actually utilize Q-in-Q? Also, quick down detection by routing protocols by seeing a port down would be a huge benefit in the case of backhauls and rings / redundant links.

QinQ encapsulate QinQ, so you have 3 stacked vlans until the paquet egress from the switch, that all.

What if the wireless link is down but ethernet port up ? For quick detection. the're BFD.

Can you do three layers of tagging?

As for the wireless being down, most backhauls have an ethernet down functionality. We use it currently, just looking to make things even better.

You can add any number of tag with QinQ standard, as long as MTU is large enough.

For ethernet down, not all radios support it and you lost management access to the radio unless they're is a separate management port.

BFD allow to reroute seamlessly OSPF, BGP or any other L3 routing protocol. At Layer 2 level, they're ERPS + MEP support by netonix but this fonction still need more beta testing first.
