Platter shaped shield kits anyone?

Maybe the kit could include a more robust pole mounting bracket? Somehow doesn't look like the plastic will last too long in the sunshine, thinking of NanoStation plastic here.

Also, while on the subject, I don't think LBE-5AC-16-120 is shielded either.

I was thinking of using the LBE-5AC-16-120 as AP for a site with few clients. That would definately call for some kind of shielding.

@Sirhc ? Would it be possible to manufacture a shield for LBE-5AC-16-120 (It actually looks like a AM‑5G16‑120 sector antenna except for the mounting)

It looks like on the LBE-5AC-16-120, there is not yet a published quick start guide, so I can only go by the two images here:

If you look very closely at the bottom edge in the first pic, there is probably the exit hole for the Ethernet cable.

Sad thing is the silly plastic swivel mount lump in the middle of the back would offset it away from the shield sheet metal. I would be tempted to saw it off!

Rather than saw it off and risk voiding warranty, just make the shield with a hole for it and then a metal cap to keep the RF in.

Actually, I just started looking closely at the LBE-5AC-16-120 return loss in the LiteBeam Datasheet ... wow ... am I reading it correctly? Seems like the chains are a mess? In the UNII-3 band, it seems to act like single polarity?



The low cost AM-5G16-120 is not great on the return loss uniformity, but seems more useable than this? Comments anyone?

I saw that as well. I think their charts are more pessimistic than reality though. People testing the LBE-AC units are reporting that they do MUCH better than the charts would have you believe.


Look at the radiation patterns.....DEFINITELY need to see an RF Armor for the LBE sector.

Did you see the dB down points on the plots? OMG! The horizontal is almost 15 dB down on the 60 degree edges.

At $89, I might just risk sawing it off and silicon it to a 3-sided aluminum panel with a top and bottom cap, maybe even 3 of those back to back around a mast

*wow*, how can they call this a 120 degree sector? -5 at the edge of advertised is too much. This is a 60-90 degree sector with sloppy edges :/ disappointed

Pretty much all of UBNT sectors are -6 dB on the edges.

However if you use the Legacy sectors with RF Armor we improve the edge drop off to less than -3 dB.

THere was no way to improve the Titanium sectors edge drop with shields.
