Some neophyte questions - WS-12-250A | WS-12-250-AC

Sun Aug 16, 2015 6:16 pm

Hello all,

I have a few questions.

I plan to install a Netonix switch to power 10 Hikvision Cameras in a farm shop that can get up to 135 degrees on a not so good summer day.

I see the specs on these switches have an Operating temperature of -25 to 55°C (-13 to 131° F).
If I go over this a couple degrees will this switch still work?
I do plan on installing a fan to circulate some air, but it still might be some hot air.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been looking at these switches. WS-12-250A | WS-12-250-AC
Other than one being rackmountable, are they the same?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Would the switches have enough power for camera's with these specs?

4x Motorized Varifocal Bullets:

Power Supply: | 12 VDC ± 10%, PoE (802.3af)
Power Consumption: | Max. 11.5 W | -Z/-H: Max. 12.5W

1x PTZ Camera:
Power Supply 24 VAC / PoE+
Power Consumption Max. 30W / 21W (IR On / Off )

5x Fixed Turrets
Power Supply DC12V ± 10%, PoE (802.3af)
Power Consumption Max. 5.5W (Max. 7.5W with ICR on)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I plan on trenching and running multimode fiber to this switch.
Does it matter If I have a ubiquiti Edgemax switch on the other side of the fiber connection.
I plan to use VLAN tagging to separate the broadcast domain on both the Netonix and Ubiquti switch.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for reading and hopefully answering all my questions...

Dave

Should be fine, no it does not shut itself OFF if it gets too hot

Well yes and no, there is a PDF on the web site that goes into more detail, in all intensive purposes yes though.
The WS-12-250-AC is more compact and it also has the ability to power 24VH which is 24V on ALL 4 PAIR on ports 1-4 but 24VH is only for POE devices like the AF2X, AF3X, and AF4X for longer cables runs over 150' otherwise you can power them with our standard 24V ports that support .75A

Easy!!!

Nope, works fine!

Thanks for the quick response.
My first thoughts were to go with two 8 port Tough Switches, but I didn't want two switches.
Then I saw a post in the Ubiquiti forums about the WS-12-250-AC and I knew a Netonix switch was going to power my cameras.
I think I'll go with the WS-12-250A since I am going to install a small wall mount rack.
If I were to go with the WS-12-250-AC route would it get sufficient air flow mounted to a wood back board?

Thanks Again,

Dave
