8 Port Mini - Or Look What Fell Off a Truck!

Tue Jan 13, 2015 4:59 pm

So the other day a delivery truck was stopped outside our office. I guess the driver must have been a little preoccupied, or sloppy... I don't know because he left the back door open while he was driving away. Out bounced a little brown box. We tried to flag down the driver but it was too late, and there was no address label or anything on the box... so, we thought we'd open it to see what was in there.

WOW! If I didn't know better I'd say this looks like it could be the prototype for an 8-Port Mini. The dimensions are all right... so we fired it up. It drives just like one of the 12 or 24 port Netonix switches.

Shhhhh. I'm sure Chris is looking for this switch, don't tell him I have it... it's working great, and with the interface being the same as the 12 and 24 ports, getting into it and configuring it was a breeze. So let me show you what we did with it. We have a closet that has been a mess with cables and power bricks, internal traffic was running through an off-brand unmanaged switch.

That no-name switch was replaced with this 8-port Netonix looking switch:

The unit is very small, very quiet... and has a standard device power plug on the back to accept a standard computer power cord.

Also, pay no attention to the patch panel in the back of the picture.... we inherited that.

As you can see from the interface, it looks just like the normal WISP Switch.. it even says Netonix in the left corner... so I think the guess that this is potentially a soon to be release Netonix switch is good.

Yes Chris you're right. The power plug is on the front. I had to test and see if you come back and say that this was in fact A Netonix eight port switch. This plug on the front actually allows the switch to be nicely positioned in a box or against the wall as the airflow is from side to side. A tough switch has a lot of wasted space around it with the plug in the back and Ethernet in the front.
