Can a damaged cable cause a reboot? [WS-6-MINI]

I have a Netonix WS-6-MINI configured like this:

Port 1 - PoE In - Mimosa PoE Brick
Port 2 - 48VH - Mimosa A5
Port 3 - 48V - Mimosa C5

Port 3 is flapping, but still providing power. I only have access to the C5 as a result. The last set of logs I have from the Netonix includes:

Code: Select all
Jun 26 08:30:07 switch[754]: Port 3 cable check results: Open, Open, Abnormal termination, Open
Jun 26 08:30:07 switch[754]: Port 3 passed PoE Smart cable check, turning on power

I am pretty sure we've identified where there is some damage in the cable. I want to be sure we fix all the problems, though. The Netonix rebooted this morning and yesterday morning on its own.

Is it possible for a damaged cable running PoE out to cause a reboot of the Netonix?

Thank you - Chris

It's possible, but not super likely - try swapping out the switch, let us know what you find?

Abnormal Termination will not damage a switch port
A short on any pair will not damage a switch port
Open on any pair will not damage a switch port

A CROSS SHORT BETWEEN PAIR WILL DAMAGE A SWITCH PORT

I don't know what an abnormal termination is but an open could cause the current to double on the other pair (remember pairs are doubled to carry more current) and if the current is too high, it could in theory cook the transformer.

Switch is on an island. Quick swap is not necessarily possible.

Update: I got connected again and found some more information. The cable may not be damaged.

Both Port 2 and Port 3 are flapping, not just the one like I thought. Both remain powered. Both ports test OK when powered.

After the ports have been flapping for a few hours, the Netonix reboots itself and the attached devices. It seems to work normally for some period of time thereafter.

Is there any existing scenario where ports will flap until the Netonix reboots? Any suggestions for repairs involving only wiring until a replacement switch can be delivered?

This was a brand new WS-6-MINI. It is running 1.4.7 firmware. The ports were powered on in software after the radios were connected. I have 4 other setups just like this and I've never had a similar issue.

Please RMA the unit and we will check it out.
It may be the 3.3V defective CAP?
