WS-12-250-DC Link Question

Mon Apr 18, 2016 1:19 pm

From time to time under the "Link" option I see the word "volt" instead of 100M-F or 1G and it happens with my UVC camera which is not accessible. If I turn it off for a bit and then back on later a lot of the time it will come back online.

Is the "volt" under the link column telling me that it's getting an incorrect voltage form the switch or something else?

What version of firmware are you running (This really helps us to help you)?

What your doing is sort of like going to a doctor and saying I have a pain when I do certain things but do not explain where the pain is or what you're doing to cause the pain.

We have posted up that we strongly suggest SMART DC switches upgrade to v1.4.0rc12 as there were some major fixes for SMART DC switches.

Version 1.3.9 Board E - I am unable to do a firmware upgrade on this particular switch - although I will upgrade when I can.

I have the POE turned off on the camera so there is nothing to take a screen capture of. I'm really just curious what the switch is indicating with the word "volt" instead of the link speed.

Description: UVC Camera
Link: volt
PoE: 24v
Watts: 2w

In that version of the firmware (v1.3.9) the volt sign indicates the Port is powered OFF due to one of the following conditions:
A time condition specified on the Power Tab
A voltage condition specified on the Power Tab
A temperature issue forcing the switch to shut down POE ports to conserve heat.

If you simply review the system log it will tell you why the port is shut down.

In the latest v1.4.0rc12 we replaced the volt icon for a clock icon to indicate a time condition shut down.

What I would do:
1) Review the switch log to see why.
2) Upgrade the firmware to v1.4.0rc12 or newer as soon as possible.

As I said if you review the system log you will know why.

However with v1.3.9 there were FALSE conditions affecting some actions which is why we strongly recommend updating any SMART DC switches with v1.4.0rc12
