First deployed WS-8-250DC lightning hit

Our first switch took a hit yesterday, tower is well grounded and radios have ethernet surge protectors but we still lost 5 radios and a Mikrotik.

The WS8 survived at least partially.

Prior to the hit, we had current on the Rocket M5 ports showing 3-4 watts most of the time.

Now ports 7 and 8 are not responding to ethernet and when poe on these ports is powered up, they draw 8 watts each even though nothing is connected and ports 3,4,5, and 6 show pulling 8.1 watts each.

Guys will change the switch tomorrow.

Must have been a good hit to take out the rest of the stuff....sounds like you lost some of the current sensors & transformers on the Netonix switch....unfortunately, sometimes when the POE loads (radios in this case) go bad because of a lighting hit, they can also take out the switch driving them....

Does it make any sense for us to send the old one back?

Just thinking with a dead sample there might be a way to make it less vulnerable?

Just a thought....

You can send it for repair.

We examine all RMA units even those that are lightning damage and not covered under warranty.

If the unit is not covered under warranty we will quote a repair cost.

I return Monday and can provide an RMA number.
