I'm sure we voided some kind of warranty or something , but we have a solar site that houses internet plus 2-way radios. This site is located up in the mountains and during the winter takes a snow cat and all day to reach the tower. We also have to cut many dozens of fallen trees out of our way to make the trip. So it's a site that needs to stay up! The 2-way radio repeaters are a massive power draw. We have a huge battery bank, an even larger solar bank, and a backup generator, but when we lose sun for a few days and the generator fails or runs out of propane we can have a very bad day! or 2, or 3...
Anyways,
The smart dudes around here built a relay system that we could plug into a Netonix switch. Using 3 ports powered on at 24V the relay keeps the 2-way radio system up running. When voltage reaches a certain low the Netonix switch shuts off ports 1 by 1 which triggers the relays to shut down individual radio repeaters, thus saving the massive battery bank for internet. This way the internet equipment can go for many days without a single recharge if needed.
It works really great and we even get emails letting us know when the radios turn on or off (which is at night usually and nobody is on them). Anyways, thought I'd share!
Found a cool new use for Netonix :)
