Solar equipment question

Mon Aug 29, 2016 10:45 pm

We are looking at a new tower location that does not have AC power available. We are unsure of what equipment or sizing we need. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Option 1:
3 - Rocket 2.4 sectors
4 - Rocket 5 sectors
1 - Powerbeam 400 ISO
1 - WS-8-150-DC

Option 2:
1 - Rocket 2.4 Omni
1 - Rocket 5 Omni
1 - Powerbeam 400 ISO
1 - WS-8-150-DC

We prefer Option 1 but we may due option 2 because of cost of solar equipment. We are located in southwest Missouri with approximately 4.5hrs average daylight.

I would rather see option 1 as well (being a WISP) but I do not have any solar setups so I will allow more experienced people to comment but there are some posts on here with suggested solar setups if you search for them

We would all rather have Option 2, but the batteries are going to cost you more than the devices. If I were setting this up in sunny Texas, I would want about 100 Ah per device. You will also need to increase you panel capacity. You might want to compromise and do something like 4 5Ghz sectors and one 2.4 Ghz omni.

Good Luck!

I must ask, what sort of budget are you looking at. I designed a site last year to support 6 AP'S (5AC & M900) as well as three AF5X backhauls. Thus far, it has run through the dead of winter in Northern Alberta with minimal issues (none related to a lack of power anyways). I'd be happy to share my recommendations based on your ballpark budget.
