PoE Question

I've got the 6 port mini. I need to power an Airfiber 5X and 3 Titanium Rockets. Port 2 can power the A5X just fine using the 24VH setting. 24 volts transmitted on all 4 pairs. However, the PoE included with the Titanium Rockets is 48 volts, powered over all 4 pairs. The 6 port mini does 48 volts, but powered only over 2 pairs.

Please excuse my ignorance., but I checked on another switch I have in the field powering a Titanium Rocket and it's using the 48V setting on 2 pairs and it seems to be working just fine. But after examining the included Titanium PoE and seeing all 4 pairs are used, it made me concerned.

Bottom line: Is it ok to power a Titanium Rocket using the 48V setting and have power transmitted over only 2 pairs?

The Titanium M2 AND M5 does not use POE on all 4 pairs, in fact using 48VH on a Titanium will result in the destruction of the radio and the switch port.

So yes, power the Titanium with 48V but why would you ever buy a Titanium, twice the cost and no performance increase over Legacy M2 or M5 Rockets

All airMAX radios use 24V - NEVER 24VH
Titanium Rockets use 48V - NEVER 48VH

Side note read the first post in the above thread, the preferred method to power AFX radios is 48VH not 24VH but read the post to determine if you have an original AF5X radio that will only use 24V or 24VH not 48V or 48VH

Please post a pic of the PoE brick that shows it using 4 pairs (8 wires). My guess is you are confusing 4 wires with 4 pairs.

As Chris said, use 2 pair (4 wire) mode.

My AF5X units MAC addresses are beyond the cutoff point so it looks like I'll be powering them with 48VH.

OK, good to know that 48VH won't cause any damage but still not needed. The low wattage can easily be carried by 2 pairs.

Yea, I would be careful with 48VH switch Titanium as it has the reset circuit looking for voltage pairs 1 and 2.

In past experience that resulted in POOF
