OK so here is a question for you guys.
Eric has been working on the CAP in his spare time for the past year but one issue we have not figured out is the CAP works great with Laptops and Game consoles but for whatever reason Apple and Android devices refuse to see the AP to connect to it. We know this is a MAJOR issue and we will figure this out but I thought I would just bounce this off our users to see if you remember this issue. We are using the Ath9K drivers.
I vaguely remember Ubiquiti had a similar issue with the airROUTER, so any of you guys remember what the issue was?
I want to say this is a Beacon issue (not to be confused with the Stick Beacon issue).
We would like to have the CAP in limited production in Q4 this year.

802.11w config ?
Management frame protection
In 2009, the 802.11 working group ratified 802.11w, a standard for the protection of management frames. Unicast management frames are protected with CCMP and encrypted to prevent eavesdropping. Management frame protection can be operated in one of two modes:
Management frame protection capable
In this mode, an AP will advertise that it can protect management frames. If a client that supports management frame protection attaches to the network, the AP will encrypt management traffic to it.
Management frame protection required
In this mode, an AP advertises not only that it can protect management frames, but also that clients must support the capability to use the network. If a client is unable to support management frame protection, it will not be allowed to connect to the network.

Re: CAP ISSUE
Hey Chris,
In case you haven't seen yet, Cambium released a new line of Indoor Home/Office routers that have free cloud management. These have VOIP ATA's built-in and you can buy a model that has built-in POE. We are buying their standard R200 model without POE since the CPE already come with an injector. Retail on this model is $70, and can get it for $56 through our distributor. It also has external antennas and the biggest thing is their very cool cloud management system to do auto firmware updates and one-touch provisioning.
Honestly, this may be a project that wouldn't be worthwhile to pursue any further. I will continue buying RF Armor and Netonix switches but with Cambium releasing their R200 and R201 routers with external antennas, we will purchase those products for our managed router service for customers. Their webinar showed some very cool features such as spectrum analysis and detailed info on each connected client to the router, all without having to login via IP but instead using a central cloud service or you can install it on a local server in the future.
What are your thoughts on this after you review it?
Thanks for all you do Chris!

Re: CAP ISSUE
Our goal is to MSRP our unit without the FXS port for $60 +/-
Our unit features:
MIMO 2x2
High Tx power
Power supply is built into the unit no external power needed so no more cable snakes for house wife to mess up
POE WAN port with software control to allow the customer AP to reboot the CPE on the roof if needed via ping watch dog.
The list goes on with the neat features we put in so I think ours will be better.

Re: CAP ISSUE
I also think that Netonix should focus on switch since the're only 1 dev.
Dcshobby, 70$ model is without PoE. The model with PoE is 20$ + MSRP.
P.S. : Cambium PoE pinout is not standard, even on the ePMP line, so you have to change cable sequence to make it work with standard pinout device.
Edit: Maybe C3Voip-200 won't be able to send PoE to other device than ePMP and PMP450. From RayS on cambium forum:
It is auto sensing. The port will provide PoE if C3 detected PMP450 or ePMP subscriber module.

Re: CAP ISSUE
We don't plan on purchasing any Home Router with POE built-in because every CPE we buy whether ePMP or Ubiquiti already includes an injector. Also, we can get the Cambium R200 with Voip ATA and NO Poe for $56 per router. The benefit of this is the POE and router are still separate so in case of power surge or other electrical issue, we hope only one of those two items fails. We've seen power surges take out a router but not a CPE and vice versa. Combining them in one unit will likely cause us more issues where we may lose both the CPE and Router with POE built-in. Plus the cost is higher overall and we would have hundreds of extra injectors in our office.
Personally, I'm fine keeping the price down and keep the router and POE separate but what I really want is a solid managed router solution to have visibility into the customer's network for troubleshooting. The cambium cnMaestro platform show some promise. We'll see if it works or not.
I ordered 4 of their R200 routers to start testing here in the office.

Re: CAP ISSUE
As a WISP here are the most common reason we end up rolling a truck or taking a tech support call.
Number 1 reason
Customer: I can not get on line.
Us: Can you reboot your radio
Customer: how do I do that
TAKES 5 MINUTES TO WALK THEM THROUGH IT AND THEY OFTEN REBOOT THEIR AP FIRST BY MISTAKE
Outcome 90% of the time a reboot of the customers CPE solves the issue.
This way the customer AP will have a ping watch dog pinging the tower, if the ping fails it reboots the CPE on the roof by itself and will notify us that it did so.
Number 2 reason which is often a truck roll
The customer decided to clean up the rats nest of cables and unplugged things and did not put them back right.
USUALLY WASTES 30 MINUTES ON THE PHONE STEPPING THEM THROUGH GETTING THEM BACK RIGHT.
Our AP will be simple, 1 AC cord and the wire coming from the roof will have a BLUE connector which we provide and the WAN jack is BLUE and the other 4 ports are black. How simple will that be to talk them through!!!
Currently you have a POE Brick with AC cord
An AP with a power adapter.
Cable from roof to POE brick
Cable from POE brick to WAN port of router
A real cable snake of a mess
Then if they have VOIP add another device and another power adapter and jumper - MESSY
Our router, one box, one AC cord, color coordinated.
Our AP will be very similar in price to the Cambium and a whole lot less of a cable mess plus it will automatically reboot the CPE if needed and report that it did so.
Plus it will have SNMP to monitor a lot of things and have SMTP alerts.
Ours will have provisioning built in so it will be a snap to deploy.

Re: CAP ISSUE
Thank you for the response Chris. We'll definitely try your device out as well once it becomes available.
One question, why not go with external antennas to increase range slightly and make the device more distinguishable to the customer as to what it is?

Re: CAP ISSUE
Here in Germany we need/use Consumer Devices which include DECT for Wireless Telephony so CAP is no option.

The CAP comes with or WITHOUT an FXS port which is "optional"
